Hell hath no fury...
Since it's debut in Paris in 1841, Giselle has inspired ballet the world over, with dazzling choreography creating a magical escape for enamored audiences. Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents this newly revamped staging of the supernatural classic, with new scenic design and costumes, in honor of Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr's 20th season with the company.
WHAT THE STORY OF GISELLE?
With music from Adolphe Adam and staging by Orr after Jean Coralli & Jules Perrot, Giselle is the sad tale of a young fragile village girl who falls for seemingly the perfect man. She is besotted by his mysterious character and upon his unmasking as a betrothed Duke, she dies tragically.
But her story does not end there. From her grave, she is summed by the Queen of the Wilis, the ethereal Myrtha and indoctrinated into the fantasy coven of women who lead men to their deaths via the medium of dance. But will Giselle be able to kill the Duke and exact her revenge, or will her love for him transcend the power of evil?
Ethereal, ghostly and ultimately heartbreaking, prepare to be whisked away to another realm by this chill inducing romance!
