Celebrate the American Greats
Join the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and 27 year old Israeli conductor Lahav Shani as they celebrate and honor the music of America's most preeminent composers. A young prodigy, guest conductor Shani has maturity and a sense of musicality that belie his age. Having won the prestigious Gustave Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2013, Shani went on to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra amongst other international orchestras.
The concert comprises of Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question, a riveting avant garde work written in 1906 and originally scored for a string ensemble, a solo trumpet and a woodwind quartet. This will be followed by Kurt Weill's Symphony No. 2, a popular Broadway symphony in three movements. The evening will be rounded off by the Gershwin classic Rhapsody In Blue, featuring Canadian pianist John Kimura Parker, as well as Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
