Pittsburgh Public Theater present a new staging of David Ives' acclaimed two-hander. The story follows director Thomas Novacheck as he auditions actresses for his modern adaptation of Venus in Furs, the controversial 1870 novella by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch which explored sexual domination and masochism. Careering into the theater just as Thomas is about to leave is Vanda, who encapsulates his domineering lead with uncanny accuracy. So begins a darkly comic play within a play, fraught with sexual tension and desire, where Thomas finds out more about himself than he bargained for.

Venus in Fur originally premiered on Broadway in 2011, with Hugh Dancy and Nina Ariande in the lead roles. Called a "suspense packed study of the erotics of power" by The New York Times, it was subsequently adapted for the silver screen by Roman Polanski in 2014.
