The Reviews For Beauty and the Beast Are In!
A tale as old as time, but one that certainly delights!
Disney's Beauty and the Beast is hitting the road again with a brand-new US 30th Anniversary production, with members of the original creative team reuniting to bring the magic back to theatres across the country - and inviting audiences to be their guest once more.
This beloved story follows Belle, a curious young woman who stumbles into an enchanted castle ruled by a prince under a powerful curse, where nothing is quite what it seems, and every rose petal matters.
A multi-Tony Award-winning musical and one of Disney's most treasured stage adaptations, Beauty and the Beast is a show that proves true love can break any curse, but more importantly, that a great musical never goes out of style.
The critics have certainly fallen under its spell. Here's what they're saying.
Beauty and The Beast Reviews
"To retreat from the heat -both the weather and political climates- of your provincial life, go and experience Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST The Musical. It's your ticket for an evening with a guaranteed happy ending!" - The Fourth Walsh, Chicago
"Tonight's opening was spectacular. While the cast appears a little smaller in numbers than previous productions, the talent of the major players and the ensemble is outstanding, making each musical number strong and drawing audience approval that was amazing. There is nothing like a "showstopper" in any production, and in this one "Be Our Guest" had people applauding, cheering and even a few on their feet, and this number is not even the first act finale. It was followed by the amazing "If I Can't Love Her" sung by The Beast ( a powerful portrayal by Fergie L. Phillippe)." - Around The Town, Chicago
"The costumes, wig work, choreography, and stage design are very nearly eclipsed by the excellent special effects. Every aspect of the production is designed as fan-service, and I'm sure none of them disappoints. Many shows try to straddle the line between being kid-friendly while also entertaining the adults, but this production does not bother with that. It knows its adoring audience and is geared directly towards them. It's not trying to tell the story anew or add any twists. Since the story is an age-old conflict, it has little dramatic conflict. It's as comforting as fresh baked chocolate chip cookies" - CTX Live Theatre, Austin
"With a voice as clear as a bell, Kyra Belle Johnson beautifully embodies the heroine's complex nature while Caleb McArthur, an understudy who appeared as the Beast, owns the role as if he were performing it every night." - Kera News, Dallas
"This show gives the audience spectacle and a captivating performance of a familiar musical. I highly recommend it to all, no matter what your age." - Music City Review, Nashville
"Disney's Beauty and the Beast has a way of enchanting audiences in a way few stories can. Whether you grew up with the iconic animated film or are encountering the tale for the first time, this North American Tour production brings all the magic, wonder, and heart that have made the story beloved across generations. With an exceptional cast leading the way, it's a mesmerizing theatrical experience that transports you into a world where fairy tales come to life right before your eyes." - BSB Insider, Detroit
"The current tour upcycles costumes, set design, musical arrangements, and script changes. As with its original version, it's still a great evening at the theater, especially for families. It's superior to the previous national tour and likely a more impressive spectacle than most community theaters can mount." - Laughing Place, New York
"From the moment Lumiere jubilantly invites us to turn off our cell phones and be his guest for the performance, audiences at the new national tour of Disney's Beauty and the Beast know they're in for a treat. Even more gorgeous and heartwarming than the Academy Award-winning animated film it's based on, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and a book by Linda Woolverton, many of the original 1994 Broadway design team are on board for this production, including Stanley A. Meyer as scenic designer, Ann Hould-Ward as dostume designer, Natasha Katz as lighting designer. Matt West, who previously served solely as choreographer, takes on directing and choreographing this production to outstanding effect." - Talkin' Broadway, Minneapolis/St. Paul
