Amazing show
Just got home from watching the show at the Avalon Theratre. It was absolutely amazing. If you closed your eyes you would have thought it was Phil. The energy in that show was phenomenal. Loved every minute..
Glorified Tribute?
We were hoping for more substance. Were hoping for more early Genesis. Were hoping that Phil was involved somehow as in he endorsed this which I don't believe he did. Don't get me wrong, the performance was very good. So if you don't mind paying $$ for a tribute band then by all means. I guess my take was, it was touted to be a docu-something or other and essentially, we thought that would include footage of some sort. I don't believe they have rights to footage of any kind because there was none. One or two photos of early Genesis. The history of Phil's career was described in vague detail between songs but it's nothing you can't read on Wikipedia. The men in the audience were mostly sedate, probably speculative about what they were hearing, and were they going to get more substance. The women, ate it up. So, just knowing those things, will you still buy a ticket? Maybe? Again, the performance, great.. the drumming, great.. we were hoping for more than that.
Waste Of Time
I’m really apprehensive when I read titles of events. Being a big fan of Genesis and Phil Collins, I thought it might be a decent documentary, when we walked in the theater and saw the equipment setup for a performance. It was confirmed, when the performers came out, it’s a FREAKING TRIBUTE BAND. For the next two hours I endured the painful reason, why I don’t like stuff like this, my wife being a big fan of Phil Collins enjoyed it, that the only reason I endured the punishment. I did notice a quite a few people walking out after the first two to three songs. I want back 2 hours of my life.
Awful
What a disappointment. From the songs they choose to the complete lack of engagement the lead singer had with the audience. I never write reviews but want to warn future fans of Phil Collin’s to ‘do your research’ before buying tickets to this show.
Deceptive Marketing
The best way to describe the show is to say that it was nothing more than a Phil Collins cover band concert - plain & simple - and that's how it should have been advertised and marketed.
