the feel-good classic musical hits pittsburgh
One of the best-loved musicals of all time comes to Pittsburgh in 2022, with Sister Act hitting the Benedum Center. A joyous musical comedy based on the 1992 movie of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act tells the uplifting tale of the music-loving Deloris Van Cartier. When she's put in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder, Deloris uses her dancing and singing talent to rebel against the convent's rigid lifestyle, bringing a new lease of life to the church and her fellow sisters but eventually blowing her cover.
The stage adaptation premiered in 2006 in Pasadena, before commencing its West End run in 2009 at the London Palladium. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, the London production received nominations for multiple Oliviers, with the Broadway production being nominated for Drama Desk and Tony Awards.
