The 15th anniversary red carpet gala
Celebrating their 15th anniversary, this extra-special red carpet gala performance is an ode to the genre-busting ballet troupe who have defied physical conventions on the traditional look of the ballet dancer. Encouraging their dancers to be healthy and athletic instead of waif-like, the women of BCB perform top-notch ballets from both classical and contemporary choreographers, bringing dance into the 21st century with technique and breath-taking style.
The special performance features four separate works by founder and artistic director Maria Caruso and commences with two 2015 commissions by both Winthrop University and the Open Door Ensemble. The piece Life Tides centers around evolution, whereby life began under water, represented by the corps emerging in full, flowing skirts. The second piece Parabola is a display of strength and articulation that occurs almost entirely en point, creating spacial patterns and the exploration of curvature.
In addition to these, Caruso's 2005 piece Solace, performed barefoot celebrates the power of friendship in times of need; the final work is her newest; Pathways, which remembers our individual personal journeys through life and relationships.
