Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra welcome one of the world's greatest living violinists, Gil Shaham, for a stunning performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Beethoven's only violin concerto, the lyrical, tender and dramatic masterpiece sunk into obscurity during his lifetime but is now regarded as one of the greatest of all violin concertos and will be brought to life in stellar fashion by Shaham's flair with the instrument.
Also on the program is Prokofiev's beautiful Fifth Symphony. Described as brooding yet freeing, the Fifth raised the already prolific composer's celebrity both in his home country and across the world, landing him a place on the cover of Time Magazine in 1945.
