WELL DONE SHOW BUT NOT A GOOD ENCORE

This is the third time I've seen The Decemberists. My wife and I enjoyed the show but were disappointed with the encore. They played one song (Joan in the Garden) from the upcoming album (a month away). The song was in three parts but the middle part was long and tedious with no vocals. We were getting bored, to be honest. Other people looked zoned out and had enough. This was a bad selection for an encore. They had a number of great songs they could've selected so everyone could walk out upbeat and happy but after the 17-18 minute song wrapped, the lights turned on and that was it. People just shrugged their shoulders and left. They are still great to see and hope the new album will be a good effort.

WAS THE SOUND ENGINEER OUT FOR A SMOKE?!

I love LOVE the Decemberists ! Seen them twice in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music. Both absolutely amazing concerts. Was so anticipating this one only to be incredibly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the same Decemberist energy was there in force, but what was lost was their voices! Every song was drowned out by the drums and bass . Gone were the lyrics, Colin’s unique phrasing, the other instruments, the other members voices…and in The Queen’s Rebuke there was hardly any reason for the “queen”(Petra Haden I think, sorry not 100% on this) to have opened her mouth! I’ll will always go to a Decemberist performance when they return to Philadelphia,(but only if it is NOT at the Filmore) and if we’re lucky, hopefully at the Academy of Music.
