Why see Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre: Giselle?
Hell Hath No Fury...
Since its debut in Paris in 1841, Giselle has inspired ballet the world over, with dazzling choreography creating a magical escape for enamored audiences. This October, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents this new staging of the classic from Adam W. McKinney. Retaining the beloved choreography by Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot, and Marius Petipa, the company will be joined by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestra playing Adolphe Adam's score live.
What Is The Story of Giselle?
Giselle is the sad tale of a young, fragile village girl who falls for a seemingly perfect man, besotted by his mysterious character. But upon his unmasking as a Duke, already promised to another, she dies tragically.
Her story does not end there. From her grave, she is summoned by the Queen of the Wilis, the ethereal Myrtha, and indoctrinated into the fantasy coven of women who lead men to their deaths via the medium of dance. But will Giselle be able to kill the Duke? Or will her love for him transcend the power of evil?
Ethereal, ghostly, and ultimately heartbreaking, prepare to be whisked away to another realm by this chill-inducing romance!
