The heart stopping Tony-winning musical about the ill-fated ocean liner
The lives of nine real passengers aboard the infamous ocean liner are examined in this Tony-winning musical from Maury Yeston and Peter Stone. Exploring their hopes and dreams as they enter their final hours on Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage, this thought-provoking and touching show is a fascinating glimpse across the class-system, capturing a post-Victorian, pre-WWI society for one fleeting moment before the events of April 14, 1912 changed the world forever.
Titanic originally opened on Broadway in 1997 (coincidentally the same year as the James Cameron movie was released) at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, where it ran for over 800 performances and scooped five Tony Awards. Emotionally engaging and throughly researched, the score draws inspiration from the music of the period, soundtracking the ship's teeming social strata with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan-esque vaudeville numbers to sweeping orchestral ballads that would make Elgar swoon.
