Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra - Pictures at an Exhibition

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra - Pictures at an Exhibition at Heinz Hall

Why see Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra - Pictures at an Exhibition?

A long awaited debut!

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra are led by esteemed Chinese conductor Long Yu, Artistic Director of the China Philharmonic Orchestra amongst many other accolades. For his Pittsburgh debut Yu will present Mussorgsky's 1974 tribute to his friend, the painter V. Hartman. Inspired by ten of Hartman's Russian paintings, 'Pictures was first conceived as a piano showcase and later orchestrated by Ravel, whom many critics praise for transforming the palette of the piece, giving it a vivid new life.

Composed in deep despair shortly after the death of his dear friend Hartman, Pictures at An Exhibition is a suite of ten pieces that make up a glowing whole. With verve and energy, the images leap from their frames and fill the concert hall with unforgettable instrumental color.
