Dima Slobodeniouk leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program that moves from contemporary color to classical Nordic grandeur, culminating in Sibelius' Symphony No. 2. It's not the only showpiece on offer though; the prodigal piano siblings Lucas and Arthur Jussen will also join the orchestra to tackle Poulenc's charming Double Piano Concerto!
Composed between 1901-02, Sibelius's second symphony is a towering statement of symphonic power whose climaxes unfold with elemental force, with the Finnish composer considering it "a confession of the soul". With the program opening with fellow Finn Lotta Wennkoski's Flounce, don't miss this evening of European splendor at Heinz Hall!
