Start 2018 with this vibrant program led by Juanjo Mena
Junjo Mena returns to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for this bright program ushering in the new year. Among pieces from Ravel, Ibert and of course Stravinsky's magnificent Firebird, the company will also interpret Debussy's Printemps for the first time in their illustrious history.
Both held as masters of the early 20th Century, it seems right that Ravel and Stravinsky's differing approaches are juxtaposed. From the modernist elegance and Viennese inspired grandeur of Ravel's Valses Nobles et Sentimentales to the dramatic peaks and magical landscapes of the Firebird, both display sheer talent that sets them high above their contemporaries.
Program
DEBUSSY: Printemps
IBERT: Flute Concerto
RAVEL: Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
STRAVINSKY: Suite from The Firebird (1919)
