Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: The Rite Of Spring

The Sacre is undoubtedly the most famous composition of the early 20th century ... it had the effect of an explosion that so scattered the elements of musical language that they could never again be put together as before

Why see Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: The Rite Of Spring?
Spring Has Sprung
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra presents Stravinsky's famous Rite of Spring, considered so scandalous at its 1913 Paris premiere that the usually deferential audiences were induced to nearly riot in "a terrific uproar" while the orchestra played on. Thankfully, it survived its disastrous premiere and has gone on to become one of the 20th century's most acclaimed masterpieces, cementing Stravinsky's legacy in concert halls worldwide.
Conducted by Rafael Payare, the program will also feature pianist Yulianna Avdeeva. Stravinsky's masterpiece will be preceded by Jimmy Lopez's Peru Negro and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2.
