Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: The Rite Of Spring

"The Sacre is undoubtedly the most famous composition of the early 20th century ... it had the effect of an explosion that so scattered the elements of musical language that they could never again be put together as before"
Donald Jay Grant, Music Historian
Why see Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: The Rite Of Spring?
Spring into fall
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra present extracts from Stravinsky's famously Rite of Spring, considered so scandalous at its 1913 Paris premiere that the usually deferential audiences were induced to nearly riot in "a terrific uproar" whilst the orchestra played on. Thankfully, it survived its disastrous premiere and has gone on to become one of the 21st century's most applauded masterpieces, cementing Stravinsky's legacy in concert halls world wide.
