Why see Arlo Guthrie?

MUSIC'S MOST SUCCESSFUL NOBODY

Over the last four decades, Arlo Guthrie has toured throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and won a broad and dedicated following. In addition to being an accomplished musician - playing the piano, six and twelve-string guitar, harmonica and a dozen other instruments - Arlo is a natural-born storyteller whose hilarious tales and anecdotes are woven seamlessly into his performances.

Arlo Guthrie is often jokingly referred to as being a 'three-hit wonder' thanks to three of his songs which each earned fame for slightly different reasons and at different times in his career. His most famous single though is undoubtedly the anti-War 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree' - an 18-minute musical monologue in which he details how he was made ineligible for the Vietnam draft on Thanksgiving 1965 by being prosecuted for littering, after hurling a bag of restaurant trash off a cliff.

Arlo Guthrie - May 5th, 2018

What a fantastic, enjoyable show put on by Arlo Guthrie, 2 of his children and the drummer at The O'Shaugnessy. Arlo is not just a great storyteller, writer and musician - he is funny! His daughter, Sarah Lee has an unbelievably beautiful voice that blew everyone away. Arlo's son Abe played the keyboard and smiled the whole time, as did the drummer! It's taken me over 50 years to finally see Arlo Guthrie in person and it was well worth the wait!! The O'Shaugnessy was also a very nice venue, perfect for this kind of show. The employees there were very friendly and helpful. ... Read more

Will never be a nobody

I remember in 1968 a friend and I were discussing Arlo Guthrie when a friend came up and asked who he was. I responded he was a folk singer and the son of Woody Guthrie. She had no idea and we were just dumb struck. I've enjoyed Arlo's music all these years but in my mine he will always be an icon of what is great about this country. I'm so looking forward to seeing Arlo when he comes to Nashville in September. ... Read more

Amazing Arlo show with Alice thrown in

Arlo and his band were pretty amazing! He said that he was going to change his setlist a little bit and that provided a pretty big treat in the form of Alice's Restaurant as the lead in after the break!! I think he played the other songs, some in a different order. Arlo sounded great, like a young Bob Dylan on the Bob Dylan songs and like Arlo, on the others. There was a very nice vibe all around, lots of old hippies. It was an incredible evening as he sang to an intimate crowd. ... Read more
