Before the Little Mermaid, there was Antonin Dvorak's Rusalka, a Slavic fairy fable about an ethereal water nymph that chooses a life on land to win over her true love, the Prince. Brought to vivid life by Dvorak's exquisite melodies and the evocative language of Czech poet Jaroslav Kvapil, the Pittsburgh Opera presents a brand new production conducted by the ensemble's music director designate Antony Walker and directed by respected opera maker Kristine McIntyre (Moby Dick, Dead Man Walking).

The eminent Pittsburgh Opera continues its latest season with a luminous production of Verdi's high stakes melodrama Aida, featuring the return of up and coming prima donna Alexandra Loutsion in the title role. Director Crystal Manich's sweeping set and lavish design partners perfectly with Verdi's passionate sonic moments, which range from the exquisitely intimate to the dramatically epic. Set in Ancient Egypt, the story centers around the conflict between forbidden love and hatred for one's enemies.

A jewel in the crown of Pittsburgh's cultural district, the center hosts the best Broadway shows and exciting concerts as they tour, and is also home to resident organisations including the Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and the Pittsburgh Opera.
